A good friend of mine (you know who you are!) isn’t much of a reader, but loves audiobooks, so I wanted to record my stuff for him. I have a decent microphone, and weirdly enough talking into it doesn’t wig me out, and I’m more or less okay with how my voice sounds. Apparently that’s some kind of superpower.
Anyway, I’ll be recording a voiceover for the stuff I write on Substack now. It’s also a way for me to practice my articulation and to make my writing more natural. I also would love to have some conversations with folks about some topics … I’m already having Ideas.
However, I have no idea what I’m doing with this Substack podcast thing (or at least starting one on an already-in-existence publication—I have helped get one going for my church; see below!).
I think, and I’m likely wrong, that in order to publish voiceovers to a podcast feed (which is the easiest way to listen to new stories and essays), you have to have it already set up and accepted by the various Official Podcast Places.
And to do that, you need at least one episode published.
And to publish a podcast episode via Substack, you have to send it to the email list.
So that’s what this is. A short podcast intro to From the Hart. Expect some read-aloud short stories and essays, some thoughts and conversations on faith & culture, and some other things as they come into mind and out on paper … or at least out on screen and then into your ears.
I hope you enjoy.
